Kohkilouyeh va Boyer Ahmad Rivers

The Province of Kohkilouyeh va Boyer Ahmad due to presence of heights along with humid air currents in the two cold and tropic regions has plenty of rainfall. This rainfall results in the appearance of rivers in this province of which the most important ones are as follows:

Beshar River, Boyer Ahmad
This river originates from the south east of upper Boyer Ahmad as well as Ardakan and Mamasani Mountains in Fars Province and continues towards the north east of the lower part of Boyer Ahmad. The major sources of this river are Ganjoun, Tizab and Tang-e-Sorkh rivers. After passing through northeastern part, it enters the Khersan River, where it joins Karoon River. Here it is known as the river of Barez that is at the northern slopes of Dena in the upper Boyer Ahmad and Tayebi areas. Finally it enters the Persian Gulf.

Kheir Abad River, Dogonbadan (Gachsaran)
This river originates from the slopes of Abgarm Kooh Mountains, 25 km. northeast of Dogonbadan. Then it runs towards northwest of the Robasht river 28 km. northeast of Dogonbadan. Here it adjoins with the waters flowing from northwest. This links up with Taqar River one km. from Gerdab Village, where it is called Shah Bahram River. In the southwest where it is already called Kheir Abad River it joins the Abdil and Bimanjegan rivers and runs south.
At a distance of 27 km. southeast of Behbahan it joins the Shams Arab River and to the north west of Heydar Karar River adjoins the Zohreh River. The length of this river is 100 km. It has very beautiful scenes and views.

Khersan River, Yasooj
The Khersan River is the largest tributary of Karoon River and originates from the Tang-e- Sorkh Mountains 43 km. southeast of Yasooj and flows under the name of Beshar River towards the northwest of this area.
After passing by the Tang-e-Sorkh Mountains irrigates several of villages and joins the Tang-e-Sorkh River in the village of Tang-e-Sorkh. Then it enters a valley between the Toop Abdollah Mountains in east and Pazanan in west. In the mentioned valley, this river passes through many villages. Finally joining rivers by the names of Garmogah and Khersan in the vicinity of Lordegan in Chahar Mahal va Bakhtiyari Province. The length of the Khersan River is 230 km. Suitable recreational areas can be found throughout the course of this river.

Maroon River, Boyer Ahmad
Its river basin is to the west of Boyer Ahmad and in a part of the Doshman Ziyari region. The Loadab being the important branch of the Maroon River which after flowing through the above mentioned areas, ultimately flows through the extreme end of Kohkilouyeh called Tang-e-Takab, continues towards Behbahan and Ahvaz in Khuzestan Province  and finally under the name of Jarahi River flows into the Persian Gulf. Areas where the river takes its source can be considered as wonderful and natural recreational spots.

Mehrian River, Yasooj
This river originates from the heights of Dena and enters Yasooj from the pass of the Tangeh waterfall, located in the north of Yasooj. A portion of the water from this river is used for drinking purposes in the city of Yasooj and the remaining part for irrigating the lands around Yasooj that joins the Beshar River of this city. Alongside the course of this river there is a small and interesting waterfall, which has created a beautiful scene in this area.

Zohreh River, Gachsaran
This river takes it source from the mountains that are located at Tang-e-Goush 14 km. northwestern of Ardakan. After it passes from the Fars Province, it enters the township of Gachsaran, through the Basht and Baboi plains. Then it enters the Province of Kohkilouyeh va Boyer Ahmad as the Zohreh River.
This river flows for a long distance crossing different villages, and at a distance of 3 km. from Chetleh village in west, it enters the Persian Gulf. The length of Zohreh River is 490 km. Throughout the year, this region offers recreational areas and opportunities for water sports.

Other Rivers, Kohkilouyeh Va Boyer Amad
Other important rivers of Kohkilouyeh va Boyer Ahmad Povince are as follows: The Nazmakan River, Loadab, Garm Rood, Shah Bahram, Kahgol Lirab, Abrigon, Broshgeft, Shabliz, Charouq Saz, Cheram, Kal Asadi, Manjegan, Sameh, Khaneh Qalt, Talkh, Baba Ahmad, Tesuj, Dilgan, Brom Mour Zard, Ganjehi, Kal, Cheshmeh Zaki and Dasht-e-Rome Rivers.
