Protected Wildlife Zones and Hunting Sites, Ilam Province Ilam Province is one the important wildlife habitats of western Iran. There live different species of wildlife like partridge, dull-yellow partridge, bustard, pigeon, heron, goose, crane, duck, owl, eagle, falcon, and starling. Migratory birds come to these habitats of the province for spending their winter, nesting and breeding specially the geese and swallow. Other important wildlife of the province are leopard, hyena, bear, wild sheep, rabbit, porcupine, squirrel, weasel, gazelle, wild goat, bore, jackal, fox, wolf etc. The important game fields and hunting areas of the province are as follows:
- Ilam hunting fields which include: mountains of Matasht, Shareh Zull, Qolarak, Sivan, Siyah Kooh, Buli Shalam, Bankul, Qalandar, Gachan, Sivan Badreh, Anarag Buli, Allah Khoda, Zamzaman, Shalian and Kavran.
- Mehran hunting fields which include: Kooh Ganji Veiss, Darband Kooh, Tang Shourshirin, Bajak, Nasrian, Bisheh Deraz, Bansarve, Vizhedarvand, Kooh Nakhjir, Poshteh Shouhan, Banrahman, Galan etc.
- Dehloran hunting fields which includ: Qeel, Anaran, Kooh Hoor, Dinar Kooh, Bayat and Musian.
- Shirvan-Chardavol hunting fields which include: Kooh Sefid Qalajeh, Sivan Badreh Heights, Zanjir Heights and Saroben Gorge.
- Dareh Shahr hunting fields which include: Zarangoosh, Sheikh Makan, Tang Bahram Chubineh, Gawmishan, Filman, Poshteh Mahtabi, Mazhyn and Kabir Kooh.
Some of the important areas of the province are protected by the Department of the Environment as wildlife refuge, these are: Masht, Seshkalan (Reno), Sharehzul, Qalandar, Gachan and Bankesol.
